5th of November
Hi Elliot!
It’s always a pleasure to hear from you. I’m so excited today because it’s the 5th of November when Guy Fawkes’ night takes place in Britain. It’s a big celebration here and it’s my favorite festival. November 5th is the anniversary of Guy Fawkes’ unsuccessful attempt to make an explosion in the British Parliament in 1605. To celebrate, there are bonfires and fireworks around the country today. In my town, we have a big bonfire in the park. We use paper and old clothes to make a ‘Guy’ – a big model of Guy Fawkes. Then, we go to the park to burn Guy in the bonfire at night. After that, we go to our friends’ houses. We put sausages and potatoes on sticks and cook them over a bonfire in the garden. For dessert, we have parkin – a light brown cake with toffee apples- apples on a stick with red sugar on top. They are tasty. Hopefully, you can come and celebrate ‘Guy Fawkes’ with us next year.
Write soon!
Best,
Shayla
