60 Seconds
Why are there 60 seconds in a minute? Why not 100? Or 10? And why are there 60 minutes in an hour? The answer is five thousand years old. There was a place called Babylon. The Babylonian mathematicians created the 60 second minute and the 24-hour day. No one had watches on their wrists or clocks in their houses. They didn't exist. In fact, the first clock was made about four thousand years later. Before that, people used sundials to tell time. They used sunlight and shadows to tell time. There weren't many sundials in the world. They made the first mechanical clock 700 years ago. Before that, most people never knew what time it was. They couldn't plan their day as easily as we do today. Can you imagine life without a clock?
