A FEMALE HERO
On 1st December 1955, a 42-year-old black woman, from Alabama, the USA got on a bus to go home. That woman was Rosa Parks. 1___. Back in that time, the USA was very different from what it is today. In the south of the country, black and white people didn’t have equality. 2____.There were separate restaurants, schools and hospitals for white and black people. Even on the bus, black people had to get on and off through a different door. They were not allowed to sit in the front seats and had to stand up if a white person wanted to sit down on their seat. And if the bus was full, black people were asked to get off the bus.
On that day in December, Rosa Parks was travelling from home after work. 3____. Some white men got on the bus and the bus driver asked Rosa Parks to give her seat to a white man. She kindly said no. The driver called the police and Rosa Parks was arrested. Afterwards, the black community took action and started their protest: they stopped travelling by bus.4_____ Of course, that protest created a big problem for the bus companies because most of the black people were using buses.
Rosa Parks lit the fire for race equality in the USA. 5____ . In 2010, Barrack Obama became the first ‘black’ president of the USA. It shows how much it changed in 60 years.
