A Film About Ancient Greece
Laura: Yesterday, our teacher showed us a video about ancient Greece.
Carl: Did you like it?
Laura: Yes, I did. I learnt lots of things. The video changed my opinion about ancient Greece.
Carl: Really? How?
Laura: I didn’t know that life was so hard in ancient Greece. I thought Greece was one country where people lived in peace and where there were great scientists.
Carl: How was it then?
Laura: Well, ancient Greece was actually a group of cities where Greek people lived, but they had their own cultures. They didn’t have one government.
Carl: That’s interesting. Did you learn about their government systems too?
Laura: Yes. I learnt that the idea of democracy was born in ancient Greece. The word ‘democracy’ comes from two Greek words: demos meaning ‘the people’ and kratia meaning ‘power’.
Carl: I love videos about ancient history. Can you ask your teacher to give you the video? I want to watch it.
Laura: Sure! I’ll talk to her.
