A Good Friend is .....
Dr Phillips is discussing ‘the importance of friends’ for a school magazine.
Dr Phillips: Without a doubt friendships are a very challenging part of any person’s life, but especially in our years at school. It is extremely beneficial to have at least one good friend or be part of a social group. Everyone wants to feel confident , comfortable, and safe, and it’s a good idea to like some of the same activities. Take your time and choose your friends carefully.
Sam: What do you think about the idea that ‘opposites attract?’
Dr Phillips: In fact, that is very interesting . It is not always important to like all the same things. However, being open and honest is vital in a strong friendship. Having at least one special friend can help you to be a better listener, be more considerate , more cheerful, and become a more positive person. Not only that, but they are of course fun to be with.
Sam: I know what you mean. I’m not very keen on sports, but my best friend Jackie loves being in the sports hall. Thank you for your time today. It was fascinating.
