A haunted house worth a million dollars
Franklin Castle is considered one of the most haunted places in Cleveland, Ohio, and has quite a paranormal history. It is a Victorian-style home and was originally built in the 1880s by Hannes Tiedemann, a grocer who later became a banker. Many of Tiedemann’s close relatives, including his 15-year-old daughter, his mother, his wife and three other of his infant children, died in this place.
After Tiedemann died in 1908, the house was used for many years as a German cultural centre. It was also the base of the German Socialist Party. However, it was throughout the 1960s when stories of paranormal activity within the castle walls surfaced. Visitors have claimed that they have heard crying babies, experienced electrical surges and even seen a mysterious woman emerging from black steam in the house.
There have also been rumours of multiple murders in the basement of the castle. However, many of these claims have never been proved to be true, but people have claimed to see apparitions of Tiedemann’s daughter, who people used to claim to have been hanged by her father.
In 1984, an actor called Michael DeVinko bought Franklin Castle and spent around one million dollars to renovate it. However, fires happened over the years which damaged the home. After more than a decade, the castle only sold for $260,000, much lower than its original value of $350,000 in 1999. Since then, the home has been converted into apartment buildings.
