A Magnificent Island, An Exotic Cuisine

Puerto Rico is a fantastic Caribbean island, which has got a great history and remarkable natural beauty. It has got an unusual cuisine. Immigration to the island has shaped its cuisine somehow. People, from all over the world have made significant contributions to the ingredients of the cuisine.

The island of Puerto Rico was known as Boriken and the original inhabitants, Taino people continue their own cuisine today. Taino cuisine includes rodents, flavoured with sweet chili peppers, shellfish and yams.

On the other hand, many aspects of Spanish cuisine can be seen as much as Taino cooking in Puerto Rico. The Spanish, who were brought to the island as slaves, extended food choices with different things like red and white meat. People’s common assumption about Puerto Rican food is that it is very spicy. Puerto Rico is also famous for its sugarcane and coffee today and these products have been exported to many countries for ages.
