A Shoe That Grows 5 Sizes
Approximately two billion humans are afflicted by soil-transmitted diseases and parasites. They live in places that lack sufficient sanitation. They struggle with proper hygiene. They do not have the right clothing, resources, or healthcare. And being sick equals struggling. Children miss out on going to school, they can’t help support their families and suffer extreme discomfort. A great amount of these diseases and parasites enter the body because people don’t have enough money to buy shoes and therefore don’t wear any.
In fact, there are over 300 million children who can’t afford to wear shoes. Those children who are fortunate enough to own a pair of shoes, own shoes that do not fit. Occasionally, they may be lucky enough to receive donations of shoes, but remember, these are kids. Their feet grow very quickly. Therefore, they have usually outgrown the donated shoes within a year, leaving them right back where they started. An ingenious new shoe has been invented to solve this problem for the millions of kids who have no shoes and are subsequently infected with soil-transmitted diseases.
“The Shoe That Grows” can grow up to five sizes. It promises to last five years or more. The very ingenious, the patented design comes in sizes from Small (to be worn from Kindergarten to 4th Grade) and Large (to be worn from 5th Grade to 9th Grade). The idea is that the whole time kids are in school, they will have a pair of shoes for their fast-growing feet.
The founder of the company, Kenton Lee, who came up with the concept while working and residing in Nairobi, says: “We believe in creating innovative products that can help people who live every day in extreme and unending poverty around our planet, helping them in really simple, practical ways.”
However, in addition to its practicality, these revolutionary shoes help to protect the feet of children in poverty, “keeping them healthy and happy”. It also helps to tackle the problem of over two billion people in the world suffering from soil-transmitted parasites and diseases. By donating $10, a new pair of these innovative shoes will be given to a kid in need. They’re currently being distributed in the most needed towns of Ecuador, Haiti, Ghana and Kenya. With this shoe, a kid can always have a pair of shoes that fit. They can stay healthy and happy – ready to take the next steps to their future.
