A Tale of Two Places
I asked my penfriends to send me a photo of where they live. Tom lives in Skagen, Denmark, and Fred lives in New York, America. I think it is easy to guess who sent each photo! Tom’s house is very nice. It is also isolated. This can be a lovely feeling or a frightening feeling; I think it must depend on how the weather is. Fred’s photo doesn’t show his actual house but it does show the city, and I can understand how it must feel to live there. The city looks chaotic and really busy. There is certainly much more traffic where Fred lives than where Tom lives.
Tom looks to live somewhere where there is more peace and quiet, more room to move around and more freedom to do as you wish. However, when there are fewer opportunities to do things and fewer things to do, like where Tom lives, you might not feel very free. It is probably very cold where Tom lives but I think the scenery must be very beautiful.
In New York, there is so much more to do. You can go shopping, sightseeing, dancing, to the theatre or the movies, ice-skating, to watch a sports event and so much more. The problem with big cities though, is that there are so many people around that it makes it much more dangerous, so this ends up limiting what you can do and when you can do it. New York is very hot in the summer and very cold in the winter. Often there are severe blizzards in winter which close the city down.
