Accidents Happen even while Taking Selfies
We all need to be careful about a new danger. What is this new danger? Well, it is the selfie. Yes – love them or hate them, taking a photo of yourself caused twice as many deaths in 2015 as shark attacks. In 2015, 12 people died while trying to take a selfie.
Selfie-related accidents can happen anywhere and anytime. The website Wikipedia.com listed the twelve deaths in 2015. Two Russian men died while taking a selfie with a hand grenade; three Indian students died while taking selfies on train tracks; an American woman fell while taking a selfie with her boyfriend on a cliff in South Africa; a Japanese tourist died falling down the stairs while trying to take a selfie at the Taj Mahal in India. There may be more. A Russian government spokeswoman said, “In 2015, there were, dozens of selfie-related accidents in Russia alone.”
According to the website, more people died in the first half of 2016 than in 2015 in selfie-related accidents. For example, a 19-year-old student fell to her death from the top of a 20-story apartment building in the Philippines, while taking a selfie. Her classmate said, "she was not satisfied with the photos they had taken, so she decided to climb up the wall" Also five people in India fell off a cliff and were injured after the gate they were leaning on collapsed during a group selfie.
The first country that has taken a baby step to prevent selfie-related accidents is India. They created no-selfie zones. It’s no surprise because it is the country almost 50% of all the selfie-related accidents happen. Russia is also warning the youth about the danger. Russia has just started a new campaign called “the safe selfie campaign.
