All about Canada
Canada is a huge country. It’s the second largest country in the world. The total size is almost 10 million square kilometres. It shares the world’s longest border with the United States—8,891 kilometres. Also, it has the world’s longest coastline, totalling 243,042 miles. It is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean in the west and the Atlantic Ocean in the east. It continues into the Arctic Ocean in the north. Canada has many different kinds of geography . There are over 31,700 lakes, making 9% of the country covered in water. The Appalachia, Rocky and Coast Mountains extend across the continent. There are vast forests throughout the country and flat prairies in the middle. Much of the northern parts are covered in glaciers . Did you know that Canada also has many active volcanoes? Many volcanoes exist in the north-western part of the country, part of the Ring of Fire. Canada is famous for being very snowy and freezing cold. However, each part of the country experiences a different climate. The southern part of Canada experiences four seasons, with rainy autumns, snowy winters, fair springs and sunny, hot summers. The coastal regions experience rainy winters and mild summers. Summers are hot and dry in the prairie regions. Even though Canada is huge, it has a very small population. Only 36 million people live there. Out of Canada’s ten provinces, most people live in only four of them: Ontario, British Columbia, Quebec, and Alberta. 80% of the population mostly live in the cities. People can enjoy a wide range of activities because Canada has such different climates. Many people like to go skiing or snowboarding in the winter and swimming and hiking in the summer.
