An Astonishing Memory Loss Story
How would you feel if you received a message from the person that you dated when you were in high school many years later? Would you reply his or her mail or would you just ignore it? Jane Peart didn’t know what to do when she got a message from her long-lost ex-boyfriend. At first, she thought that it was a joke and ignored the message. She read it a while later and was shocked.
Kevin, her ex-boyfriend, was asking for help. In 2002, he had a motorbike accident and severe brain injuries wiped out some sections of his memory. When he opened his eyes after being in a coma for two days, he didn’t even recognize his mother. He had to stay in hospital for eight weeks and during this time the doctors taught him how to talk, walk, dress and eat by himself. However, he showed no progress in remembering things. He couldn’t remember his childhood home and himself when he looked at his own photo.
In order to regain his memory, he needed to talk to his old friends and find out about his old life. One of his friends advised him to contact his old friends via social networking websites. Kevin started to go through the website, but couldn’t remember the people and their faces. While he was scrolling down, he saw Jane’s photo and felt that he had to contact her even though he couldn’t remember who she was or how he had met her. He sent a message to her and asked for her help.
To bring old memories back, Kevin and Jane met near their homes where they used to live when they were teenagers. Jane tried to remind him of their memories. She answered his questions, talked about their mutual friends, reminded him that he used to swim in the River Thames to impress her while they were dating. They kept on meeting every week to put the missing parts together. Slowly his memory started to come back, but it took a very long time for him to regain his memory.
While they were working on his memory, Kevin remembered his old feelings for Jane and fell in love with her. They got married and now have two kids.
