AN EMAIL FROM DENISE
1 - How are you? I’m sitting in a café near the university at the moment. I have an exam tomorrow, so I must go home and study hard all night. I don’t want to spend time cooking dinner, so I will have a quick snack in the café before I go home.
2 - There is a school trip to Rome next month. You know how much I want to see Italy, so I am really interested in that trip. I saved up some money while I was working part-time last summer so I can afford most of the fee, but I still need some more. I really want to go there, Dad! Can you send me $200? It’s my birthday next month so you can send it to me as a birthday present! What do you think?
3 - By the way, I met a famous artist here yesterday. He liked my sketches, and we talked about my future plans for hours. He says I will be a successful artist if I work hard. He thinks I am really talented. I met him at a conference in our department, and I think I am really lucky to have met him. He told me that he would help me with some techniques to improve my style.
4 - I am going to visit him in his art gallery next week. He is going to show me his own paintings, and I think we will plan to meet regularly. I’m happy to be a student in the department of fine arts. I met several artists during the conferences here.
5 - I have to go now. Please write to me as soon as possible, and tell me if you will send the money or not. If I receive the money, I will go to the students’ office and have my name added to the list for the trip. Then I have to do some shopping as well. I am going to take my camera with me and take lots of photos in Rome. I am going to use those photos to draw pictures of the city when I come back. I hope you can send me the money.
Love,
Denise
