An Escape Story

Abuh is a resident of Japan’s Shibukawa Zoological Park in Okaymana. She is a 35-year-old animal with a strong desire to be free. She tried to make a break for it about three weeks ago. When zoo officials noticed her absence, they warned the residents to keep an eye out for the hard-shelled creature. For nearly two whole weeks, Abuh managed to go unnoticed, living a fabulous life beyond the confines of her zoo enclosure. On a side note, giant tortoises like Abuh can live without food and water for several months, so she wasn’t in any rush to find a new place to call home. On Wednesday, however, news outlets reported her time as a free tortoise had ended. Officials discovered that she was hidden in a shrubbery only 140 meters away from the zoo. “We were so relieved that she returned home safely as she is so popular among children,” zookeeper Yoshimi Yaman told news outlets. Officials described Abuh as a gentle animal before her failed attempt, so they had allowed her to roam freely around the zoo grounds, but I think the escape shows that they might be wrong about her personality. As for Abuh, it looks like she’ll have to try a new tactic in her next bid for independence. Slow but steady, right?
