An Unnecessary Lie

Brian: You look upset, Sarah. (1) ..................

Sarah: It’s Zack and Mila. They said things behind my back – completely untrue things.

Brian: (2) ..................

Sarah: They said I lied about my maths grades. But I didn’t lie. I got the top grade in school.

Brian: (3) ..................

Sarah: Do you remember Jeff? He was in our school last year.
He became the best maths student with the top grade. Jeff is Zack and Mila’s best friend,
and they think I’m jealous of him.

Brian: (4) ..................

Sarah: Yes, they did. They sent messages to the WhatsApp group.

Brian: (5) ..................

Sarah: No, I didn’t. Because, you know, I got the top grade in school, but my grade wasn’t better than Jeff’s.

Brian: Uh-huh! So, you did lie. I mean, you told a half-truth.

Sarah: And I don’t know what to do.
