ANGELINA JOLIE – AN ANGEL INDEED…

Angelina Jolie was born in Los Angeles, USA in 1976. She loved movies and started acting classes to follow her dream of becoming an actress when she was only in middle school. She had a rebellious personality so she became a punk with dyed purple hair and tattoos when she was a teenager. Her movie career had just taken off in 1997 when she won an Oscar. Her 2001 role as Lara Croft in the blockbuster “Tomb Raider” shot her to international fame.

Angelina hasn’t restricted her career to acting. She became involved in humanitarian work while filming in Cambodia, a country where poverty and famine go hand in hand. She is now a UN Goodwill Ambassador, visiting refugee camps in poor countries specifically in Africa. She donates huge amounts of money to help the underprivileged people. She has effectively used her fame to raise awareness about world problems.

Unfortunately, Jolie’s private life has come to overshadow her activities. The press is obsessed with her relationships, especially with the one with Brad Pitt. Their divorce attracted even more attention than their marriage and adopted children.

Helping other people is what motivates Angelina. In 2001, she said “We cannot close ourselves off and ignore the fact that millions of people are out there suffering.” In addition to acting awards, she has received praise for her humanitarian work. She became the first winner of the UN’s Citizen of the World Award.
