ANNIE AND PAUL

ANNIE AND PAUL

Annie is an old lady. She had her ninety-second birthday recently. She is generally a happy person because she has a lovely, caring family and she had an exciting and fun life. She has three grandchildren and she loves to play with them. However, being old is difficult and Annie has some problems. Going up and down stairs, carrying heavy bags, reading the newspaper, and remembering names are difficult for her.

Paul helps Annie every day. Paul does not help her carry bags or remember names. He just helps her walk around town. Paul is not one of Annie’s grandchildren, he is a dog. In fact, he is a guide dog. Annie’s biggest problem is that she is blind.

Guide dogs help people like Annie who can’t see. They help them leave their homes and walk around town safely. For example, they help people cross the road at the crosswalk and stop by the road when cars come. With Paul’s help, visiting family and going shopping is easy for Annie.

Paul is a very good dog. When he and Annie go to the park, he walks carefully and slowly. He doesn’t run around and chase squirrels. He also stays calm inside shops and doesn’t try to eat the food from the shelves. He knows the supermarket food isn’t his.

Paul is a great help to Annie. He makes her life easy and gives her freedom.
