Ant Life Cycle

Ant Life Cycle

Jane: Hi Matt. What are you doing?

Matt: Hi Jane. I’m watching a video online about the life of ants.

Jane: What kind of ants are these ones?

Matt: They’re red ants. They’re common in North America, South America and parts of Asia.

Jane: What does the video say about their life?

Matt: Their life has four parts. In the first part, the queen ant lays eggs, and other worker ants take care of each egg until a larva comes out of an egg. The larva looks like a worm, and the worker ants give it food until it gets bigger.

Jane: What happens next?

Matt: Then, when the larva is big enough it spins something like silk around itself. It’s called a cocoon. In this stage, the larva is called a ‘pupa’. In the cocoon, metamorphosis happens and an adult ant comes out of the cocoon.

Jane: That’s interesting. Are you finished with the film yet?

Matt: No, I’m watching the part about their adult life. Let’s watch together.
