ARE YOU A SHOPAHOLIC?

Have you ever thought about your shopping habits? When was the last time you bought something for yourself? Did you really need it? Did you even think twice before buying it? We have interviewed some young people about their shopping habits. Here is what they said.

Macy – Do people really need to buy so many things? I am definitely not a shopaholic. I don’t even like shopping I think. The only time I go shopping is when I really I have to buy something. I really don’t understand how people can go shopping every day. It seems like people do shopping every day, any time these days. Why would someone go to a shopping mall and spend hours there? Don’t they have other things to do in life?

Christina – Of course I love shopping? Who doesn’t? It is one of my favourite hobbies. I think it is great that there are so many shopping malls and the shops are open till ten o’clock and also all weekend. I used to get bored on Sundays in the past because all the shops would be closed. Now I can buy things whenever I want. I also meet my friends at shopping malls. If we are not in mood for shopping or if we don’t have any money, we do window-shopping and try to decide what we will buy during our next trip to the shopping mall. When I want to spend some money, I always find something to buy. I think you can call me a shopaholic.

Mark – I used to like shopping more but I don’t like the new shopping malls and big supermarkets. It is impossible for small businesses to survive these days. I used to like going to the butcher’s or the greengrocer’s to do my shopping. I knew the people who worked there and enjoyed buying things from people I know. Now I prefer buying things over the Internet. It’s easier and it means I don’t have to go to the town centre or to one of those big and noisy malls to buy the things I need.

Kenneth – Life is very difficult when you have three children. My wife and I used to go shopping every weekend. We used to enjoy spending time at the supermarket, planning what we would cook and buy the freshest ingredients. After we had three children it became very difficult for us to go shopping. When we have to we prefer the shopping centre because we don’t have to worry about the weather with the kids. We can do our shopping even if it is freezing cold or snowy outside. We don’t spend much time there, though. We try to buy the things we need as fast as possible and get home before kids get too tired and fussy.

Ally – I work one of the most famous clothes store in the town centre and people go crazy buying so much stuff. Sometimes they don’t even look at the product’s price. I think it is because of credit cards. People are spending money that they don’t actually have. I have to work on Saturdays and Sundays too as they are the busiest days at the store. It is really terrible to work on busiest days.
