AUDREY HEPBURN

AUDREY HEPBURN

Famous actress, Audrey Hepburn who is known for more than her elegance and beauty, is not just a style icon. Audrey Hepburn was born in Brussels, Belgium and lived in the Netherlands during World War II. As her parents were divorced, she had to live with her mother in real poverty which almost resulted in them dying of starvation. When the war ended, they moved to England where Audrey studied ballet, began working as a model and appearing in small roles in the theatre and in movies. She appeared in many movies and she won many awards for her outstanding performances, like the Academy Award, the Golden Globe Award and the BAFTA for best actress.

Audrey Hepburn’s naturally elegant style was personified by her tiara, large sunglasses and her hair style in the famous film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”. Her hairstyle, black-lined eyes and capris worn with ballet flats reflect much of her simple style, which is still being copied even today because she has become a symbol of grace, class and elegance for many of us. However, these are not the only things that captivated the world and made her beautiful in the eyes of the world and millions of fans.

She had two major lives, one on-screen which has been related to fashion and the other one is her off-screen humanitarian work. After appearing in many films, she worked as a “Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF)”. Through her work with UNICEF from 1988 until her death in 1993, she used her fame and image to attract the world’s attention to the people who suffered tremendous pain. She knew what these people went through better than anyone else because as a child she had experienced similar things and it was the United Nations that saved her. Audrey’s volunteer work was more meaningful to her than restarting her acting career so she stopped acting after she had started serving UNICEF.
