Aunt Helen in Egypt

Dear Calista,
The artist wants to pay you $25 an hour. That’s amazing! But your mum is right. Artists can be very hard to work with. It’s really great that the artist identified you as a talented person, but you don’t know what kind of jobs she will ask you to do.
Do you remember that I told you I worked for a great professor in Egypt? Well, he taught me a lot, but he also wanted me to cook for him every night. I was a student, not a maid! He asked me to put up signs
with Arabic names for everything in his house because he wanted to practise the language. That took so much time!
I didn’t want to do those little jobs. I wanted to travel around Egypt. I wasn’t interested in touristy places like the ancient pyramids. I wanted to visit the little villages and learn about the culture from real people. I wanted to try all the foods and learn how to cook them myself. I love travelling because I love adventure. I love trying new things and learning. I learned that I didn’t like being an assistant.
Maybe you will learn that, too, if you work for the artist. You love your job. There is no stress, and the people are fun. If you work for the artist, it will be very different. I think you should stay at the T-shirt shop.
Love,
Aunt Helen
