Australia is a very big island. It is the world’s sixth-largest country by area. Australia is world-famous for its natural wonders, beaches and deserts. A lot of people live near the coasts. They like surfing and going to the beach. Australians speak English. They sometimes call their country ‘Oz’. Canberra is the capital city of Australia. Sydney is the largest city of Australia. There is a big bridge in Sydney. It’s called Sydney Harbour Bridge. You can climb it. There are lots of mountains in Australia. There is a very high mountain called Mount Kosciuszko. You can ski there in winter. There are also lots of deserts in Australia. Australians call the desert the ‘outback’. It’s a very dry area. They usually have cold winters and very hot summers.
There are many special animals in this country. Australia has many different reptile species, more than any other country in the world. It is also home to some unique animals like koalas and kangaroos. Kangaroos can jump near three meters and koalas live in trees. The emu is a very big bird that lives in Australia as well. It runs very fast, but it can’t fly. There are crocodiles and snakes, too. They are very dangerous. In Australia, there are many wildlife parks and zoos. Tourists can always go and see those animals.
