Average Homes Have More TVs Than People
How many TVs do you have in your house? 1, 2, 3 or more than that? Many people prefer having more than one TV in their houses. In some houses the number of televisions is more than the number of people living in that house!
According to a research company, half of American homes have three or more TVs. People like to have them in different rooms of their houses so that they can continue watching wherever they are in their house.
Rick Melen and his wife have three TVs in their home. Actually, they have four but the one in the bathroom is broken now. Melen says that he and his wife like to have TV everywhere possible in the house. They watch TV in the kitchen if they are cooking or in the living room if they want to see a baseball game.
"It's really just a matter of where you spend most of your time while at home. You can move many of the electronics in the house but you can't move a television."
David and Teresa Leon have seven TVs, and there are only four people in their home. In the Leon home, there is a television in the parents' room. Each of the two Leon children has a TV in their bedroom. There are also TVs in the family room, the living room, and the kitchen.
"No one ever sits down for more than a few seconds in this house," says Teresa. "This way you can watch TV while you're moving from room to room."
The research company found out that people watch TV for more hours now than they did in the past. The average person watches four hours 35 minutes of television every day. In an average home, a television set is turned on for one-third of the day. That total is one hour more than it was a decade ago.
In general, families are glued to the TV set. There are a few exceptions, however. In the last few years, researchers found out that people aged 12 to 17 were not watching as much television as they did in the past. Experts say that teens were probably busy with video games. This year, however, television viewing among teens went up again.
So, what about books? How many books do most households have? There's no information on that!
