AYE AYE' S JOURNEY TO SCHOOL

AYE AYE' S JOURNEY TO SCHOOL

Meet Aye Aye. Aye Aye is from Myanmar. She is nine years old, and a student at elementary school. Aye Aye’s school is not close to her house. It takes a long time for her to go to school every morning.

In summer, she goes by farm truck. Her neighbour drives all the children who live nearby. There are no seats or seatbelts, they just sit in the back of the truck. It takes 45 minutes, so Aye Aye leaves her house at 7 am.

In winter, it always rains a lot. People cannot drive on the roads, so Aye Aye and her friends can’t go to school by truck. In winter, they go a different way. Aye Aye leaves her house at 6 am in winter. First, she and her friends walk to the river. They don’t wear shoes because the road is too muddy and wet. The mud is very deep. Sometimes it reaches her knees. It takes 30 minutes to walk.

After walking to the river, Aye Aye and her friends go by boat. Aye Aye’s dad is a fisherman. He takes Aye Aye and her friends to school and then he goes to work. It takes one and a half hours to go to school by boat.

After school she does the whole journey again to get home.
