BABY IN A BOX

BABY IN A BOX

In Finland, babies don’t come with a loaf of bread under their arm but with a box!

In the 1930s, Finland was a poor country and infant mortality rates were high. So, the government came up with a brilliant idea for families on a low income. For more than 75 years, the state has been giving a Baby Box to Finland's expectant mothers.

It is believed that Finland achieves one of the world's lowest infant mortality rates thanks to these Baby Boxes.

For more than 75 years, Finland's expectant mothers have been given a Baby Box by the state that serves as a starter kit for their new baby. It contains clothes, sheets, blankets, and other necessities for new-borns, and the Baby Box itself--which is lined with a mattress--is used as the child's first bed.

Adoptive parents also get a maternity package if the child they are adopting is under 18 years of age.
