Bears

American Black Bears live in Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. If an American Black Bear stands up on its hind legs like humans do, it can be up to seven feet tall. A mother Black Bear can have 2-4 baby bears. They have babies in winter. The baby bears are called cubs. During the summer, the cubs like to spend time outside, running and playing. They drink milk provided by their mother. The cubs also eat nuts, berries, and insects. During the winter, the cubs hibernate in a den with their mothers. They sleep and rest all winter. The cubs leave their mother the following summer. They move away to start their own family.

Brown Bears live in the north. They live in Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Washington, Alaska, Canada and Northern Eurasia. Brown Bears are enormous. When a Brown Bear stands on its hind legs, it can be up to ten feet tall. Brown Bear cubs are born in winter like Black Bear cubs. They drink milk until spring or summer. Mother Brown Bears have 2-4 cubs. Brown Bear cubs stay for 2-4 years with their mothers. The adult females, known as sows, teach them how to hunt fish during the day. They like to hunt in large, open spaces, or rivers and lakes. Brown Bears eat mostly salmon or fruit, but they also hunt and eat small animals.
