BEING A WHITE WATER RAFTING GUIDE

BEING A WHITE WATER RAFTING GUIDE

White water rafting is a recreational outdoor activity. People use a raft to navigate on a river or another body of water. Dealing with risk and the need for teamwork is often a part of white water rafting experience. This activity has been popular since 1950s.

If you are doing this activity for the first time, you probably need a guide. White water rafting guides are ready to make your experience both safe and fun. They lead groups of people from one end of a river to the other.

To become a white water rafting guide, you need to go to a guide school and

get your licence. In this school, you learn how to raft and swim fast even in extreme weather conditions. If you do not push yourself to your limits and achieve these, your chance of

getting a certificate is low.

Although it is a difficult job, one of the greatest advantages of this job is the great fun. Before having fun, white water rafting guides’ first and biggest responsibility is to keep everyone safe. They give directions to people, explain them what to do if the boat flips and make sure that everyone wears their safety gears correctly.

This job is seasonal. The highest season is the summer during which they need to work nonstop. As a result, they can make a lot of money during the summer – including the tips. However, when the weather gets cold and the water dries up, they need to look for another job.
