Bethany’s Dilemma
Dear Mrs Jones,
I am writing to say that I have something I need to tell you. Last week, when we had the maths exam, I saw Mandy and Heather speaking during the exam and Mandy passed a small piece of paper to Heather. I have been unable to sleep for the last three days. Our counsellor Miss Bell came to our class on Monday, and she told us not to keep secrets especially from our parents and teachers when there is something that should be shared. It was after that meeting I heard Mandy and Heather talking to each other about the next exam. I didn’t like the way they spoke. I was still struggling with what I should do about the first maths exam and then this happened.
Mandy said to Heather that instead of trying to pass each other the answers in the next exam, they could find another less risky way. I knew they had cheated somehow by giving each other an answer, but I didn’t realise that they were planning to cheat again. I think cheating in an exam is a very bad idea. I know it isn’t as bad as stealing or vandalism, but it’s still not good. I believe if they continue to cheat, in the future they might not take other things seriously and actually do something worse.
I am so sorry not to have told you this before. It isn’t fair for those of us who study hard before our exams. I hope I will not witness anything like that again. I know that you will decide on the best thing to do about this. I hope you will not be angry with me, as well. I also told my mum and she said that I shouldn’t keep it a secret from you or I would be no better than them.
I like your lessons Mrs Jones, and when I grow up, I want to be a mathematician.
Best wishes,
Bethany
