Bobby the Wonder Dog

Bobby the Wonder Dog

In 1923, Bobbie the dog travelled with his family from Oregon to Indiana. He was a two-year-old Collie/English Shepherd mix. On the way, Bobbie got separated from his owners and was lost. The family looked for him everywhere but couldn’t find him anywhere. They decided the best thing was to go back to Oregon.

Six months later, in 1924, Bobbie came to the door of the family home in Oregon. He was very thin, dirty and weak. His feet were sore because he had walked 4,105 km across America to get home.

On his way, Bobbie crossed fields, deserts and mountains. Many people soon heard about this amazing dog. They came from all over the world to see him and sent him letters. Soon after, Bobbie was given the name, Bobbie the Wonder Dog. People wrote about him in newspapers and books. At one show in Oregon, 40,000 people came to see him. Bobbie died when he was 6 years old in 1927.
