The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien
When J. R. R. Tolkien published his book in 1954, lots of people didn’t like it, and critics gave it bad reviews.
About ten years later, his work became one of the most popular fantasy stories in the US.
Between 2001 and 2003, Peter Jackson, a director from New Zealand, made the film version of the book.
He made the film in three parts, and they became very popular. They sold about 3 billion dollars.

Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë
English novelist Emily Brontë wrote Wuthering Heights in two years (1845 and 1846).
She published the book a year later, but it didn’t get many positive reviews.Critics said it was strange and not artistic.
Some of them said that people should burn the book because it was so bad.
After many years the book became very popular, and directors started making films from the story in the book.
Now the book is an important work in English literature.
