Brands, Clothes, Problems!
Have you ever had friends at school who love to show everyone the brands of their clothes?
A lot of teenagers spend all of their money on expensive clothing. Shirts, jeans, trousers,
sunglasses and even shorts with brand names on them make these teenagers look fashionable – and rich!
But did you know that a lot of these brands have dark sides?
Have you ever asked yourself, ‘Where are these clothes made?’
Famous brands usually don’t produce their clothes in their home country.
Instead they use the labour of people in poorer countries. They do this to earn more money.
For example, one famous shoe brand pays one dollar to the person who makes a shoe,
20 dollars to transport the shoe to the shops and 30 dollars to keep the shoe in the shop for some time.
In the end, it sells the shoe to you for 350 dollars.
Some famous brands use celebrities to advertise their products.
They do this so you think that successful people use their products.
Some famous brands also do crazy things for attention. Recently, one famous shoe company has paid millions of dollars to an unsuccessful football player to be in their advertisement.
People are saying that he hasn’t been a successful player.
They are surprised that the shoe company has used this player. Well, don’t be surprised!
The shoe company wanted people and the media to talk about their brand. Looks like it has worked for them!
