Brilliant idea that changed the world
Sometimes a brilliant idea can make our world a different place. Here are three inventions that have changed our world and are still used today.
The world’s oldest wooden wheel was discovered near Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, in 2002. After some tests, scientists said it was about 5,150 years old. The invention of wheel made a big difference. Wheels are used in lots of things: carriages, cars, trains, airplanes and even toys. They were invented to make it easier for people to carry things. Without wheels, transportation wouldn’t exist.
The steam engine was developed by several inventors between the 16th and 18th centuries. It was used in early railway locomotives, ships and steamboats. This invention changed the world of transportation. It made it easier for large groups of people to go on a vehicle together.
The printing press was invented in 1439 by German inventor Johannes Gutenberg. Before this invention books were copied by hand. This was slow, so there were not many books, and when libraries burnt, lots of books were lost forever. The printing press changed that. After the invention, only in 60 years, 200 million books were copied with this device. This helped people to get books more easily and learn more about the world.
