Bullying
Many children these days say that they do not want to attend school. Why do you think this is? Perhaps it is because the school work is just too hard. Or maybe there is a far more serious reason.
‘Bullying’ is a very serious problem and it makes children not want to go to school. School bullies come in all shapes and sizes and the bullying can take many forms. The most common type of bullying is when bigger kids pick on kids that are smaller than them. They use their size to make smaller kids feel weak and scared. Often they will use physical force to take things, such as money or their lunch, from them. Another form of bullying is verbal. This means they use words to hurt, shame, and humiliate other children. These verbal bullies may pick on a child simply because they look a little bit different: perhaps the little child has red hair or wears glasses, or maybe doesn’t have the most fashionable shoes or bag. These bullies are cruel and use words as weapons to hurt other children.
It is believed by some psychologists that class bullies do it because they feel inferior themselves or because they may be unhappy in some way. However, this doesn’t help the victims. Bullying has become such a serious problem that many schools are coming up with official ways to stop it. The victims of bullying are encouraged to report it to an adult they trust, but a lot of the victims are too afraid to because they are worried that it will make the bully even worse. So much bullying goes unpunished. We must protect each other from this problem. Every child has a right to enjoy their school days and to learn in a safe environment.
