Casey' Amazing Time in Queensland, Autralia

Hi Morgan,

How are things? I’m having an amazing time in Queensland, Australia!

On Monday we went to Sea World. Going on the rides was quite good fun, but the real attraction was seeing the animals. Wow! As well as dolphins and sharks, there were three polar bears, and stingrays, too, which you could feed. I wouldn’t recommend touching the stingrays, though. I did – it wasn’t pleasant! There’s also a seabird hospital where injured birds are looked after. When they’re well, they’ll be released.

The next day we climbed Q1, which is a very tall skyscraper by the coast. Builders started work in 2002, and they finished three years later! The views were pretty cool, but the climb was terrifying. We had to go up the outside of the building. Never again!

On Wednesday, I saw the Great Barrier Reef. The sailboat ride there was OK, but a bit slow. However, the reef was so beautiful I didn’t mind. Our guide said you could see it from space! It was quite sad, though, because parts of the reef will be destroyed by pollution within 50 years, and we won’t be able to restore it.

I went surfing all day yesterday! I read that about one in every ten Australians surf, and it has probably become my favorite sport now! Mum went to the souvenir shops instead, but Dad had his first surfing lesson. It was really funny – for me! He fell over a lot.

Afterwards, we ate something called Surf and Turf at this great place near the beach. That’s basically seafood with steak. It’s not bad, but you need to be really hungry because the portion was huge! We ordered it because we thought it was a typical Australian dish. But it’s actually from the USA!

I hope you’re having a good summer! See you soon,

Casey x
