Celebrations Around the World

Rio Carnival
People celebrate the Rio Carnival every year in February or March. It takes place in Rio de Janeiro. They decorate the streets and have parties and street parades. People wear colourful costumes and dance to samba music. The biggest parade takes place in the Sambadrome. Students from different samba schools join the parade. They also take part in a competition and choose a winner at the end of the carnival.
Halloween
People celebrate Halloween in the US, the UK, and many other countries on 31st of October. Children dress up in funny or scary costumes. They knock on their neighbours’ doors and get sweets or chocolate. They also make jack-o’-lanterns. They carve pumpkins and turn them into scary faces. Then, they put candles inside them and decorate their gardens with them.
St Patrick’s Day
St Patrick’s Day is a national holiday in Ireland. Irish people celebrate this day on March
17th. Some people in Australia, the US, and Canada also celebrate this day. They listen to Irish music, watch big parades and have fun. People wear green clothes and also colour their faces green. They even cook green food. In Chicago, people put green colouring in the river.
