She entertained people at her parents’ piano bar, where her father supported his family of 16 on just $160 per week. Her big break came when she and her family sent a self-composed song to music manager Rene Angelil. Rene cried when he heard her voice. He sold his house to pay for her first record and continued coaching her all through her life. The two are now married, and Dion is now estimated to be worth $400 million.

Jim Carrey
It may just be Jim Carrey’s world-famous sense of humour that kept him going during his tough beginnings. He was born in Canada and grew up there. Carrey dropped out of high school to help pay the bills. He worked as both a janitor and a security guard, but his family eventually lost their home despite his efforts and was forced to live in a van. When Carrey moved to the U.S., he struggled on the comedy circuit in Los Angeles before breaking it big in his first television show, “In Living Color”. He is now estimated to earn approximately $20 million per film.

Sarah Jessica Parker, who was born in an Ohio coal-mining town, was the youngest of four children. Her parents divorced when she was two. After her mother remarried, she had four more siblings. The family had difficulty getting by as her mother was a housewife, and her stepfather was a truck driver. However, Parker’s talent leads her to land her first Broadway role at 11, and at 16 she would move to Hollywood to appear in her first TV show, “Square Pegs”. Parker is reportedly worth $90 million today.
