CHARITY WORK

A charity is an organization that tries to help people in a way. Charities usually give money, goods, food or help people who are sick and poor. When we talk about a charity, usually famous people come to mind. Today, lots of actors, singers and celebrities like Angelina Jolie, Matt Damon and Madonna do charity work.

The best thing about these famous people doing charity work is that they appear on the news or magazines so a lot of people can read or hear about it. These famous people become good role models for the public and ordinary people may want to help others in some way too. If we think about helping the poor around the world, people will probably remember what Angelina Jolie has been doing for a long a time. In 2006, her first baby Shiloh was born and she let a popular magazine take and publish the pictures of her baby. The magazine agreed to donate millions of dollars to a charity in Haiti. Also, she adopted 3 poor children from different countries in the world. She has been working with United Nations to visit and help poor people around the world.

Another good example is the famous actress Scarlett Johansson. She has been trying to help poor and sick people around the world. In 2001, she didn’t go to the Oscars because she preferred to have a tour in India and Sri Lanka for a charity. She feels responsible for all the sick and poor people in the world.

However, you don’t need to be a famous or a very rich person to help others. In Turkey, there is a charity organization called `Light The Future` and they have helped many people in many cities of Turkey, like Batman, Malatya, Siirt and so on. This organisation was formed by a couple of university students and they visit schools in poor villages or towns. They write down what the students need and ask ordinary people to contribute as much as they can. You don’t even have to buy something to help. You can give your old books, clothes, toys and other things. You can buy a pair of shoes and a shirt. The organisation has been working from Instagram and now they have almost 100.000 followers. The group takes pictures of the children who get help and thank people who helped these children.

Don’t throw out your old toys and clothes because maybe there are children who will love and use them.
