Children – In The Past And Now

Children – In The Past And Now

Children didn’t have a lot of stuff in the past.
Most kids had clothes, things
for school and some toys from their older brothers and sisters or cousins.
When children wanted to buy something extra for themselves, they would work and earn money for it.
Today parents buy all sorts of things for their
children.
The cost of a raising a child through the age of 17 is about $235,000
in the United States.
Half of the population of the world, only spend $16,000
on every child.

Jane: ‘My cousin Mary hasn’t got an iPad. My uncle only gave her his mobile phone when she was 12.
He wants
to give her another mobile phone for her birthday this year – his current mobile phone!
Mary isn’t sad or
angry about it. She says, “My dad gives me a big allowance, and that’s enough for me.
I can buy a mobile
phone if I save my money.”’

Alex: ‘My cousin Tom has got everything he wants, but he’s not happy.
Every
day when he sees something new in his classmates’ hands he wants it – the newest video game,
laptop, gaming computer, VR headset,
you name it. He says, “I don’t want to be behind my friends.
I always
need to have better things than they do.”’
