Children’s Extracurricular Activities
Nowadays, children are busier than ever before. According to the Pew Research Center’s latest survey, children and teenagers do many extracurricular (after school and weekend) activities. The second most common thing children and teens like to do after school is a sport. 73% of kids liked to play in a team sport such as basketball, football, or volleyball. Athletic activities such as gymnastics and swimming were popular as well. The third most common activity is participating in group activities (60%).
Many adolescents like to spend time with friends, and joining an after school or weekend club is a good way to hang out. There are many kinds, such as chess, table tennis, book, and film clubs. The fourth most common activity is taking lessons in dance, music or art (54%). Ballet, learning to play a musical instrument like a guitar or piano, and painting lessons are some examples. The fifth most common was doing volunteer work, such as helping at an animal shelter or raising money for charity (53%). Lastly, older teens reported having a part-time job (36%). What is the number most common activity? 90% of children and teens reported using phones or computers regularly to help relax. Game apps and social media are very important to children’s lives nowadays. Many adolescents reported that using technology helps them stay connected to their friends.
