Chinese Lantern Festival
Last year my family and I went to the Lantern Festival in China. This festival is for the end of the Chinese New Year celebrations and it welcomes the first full moon of the year.
We saw thousands of lanterns everywhere. People hung them from their homes and shops. There were clowns, acrobats, parades and music. There were also Chinese Lion and Dragon dances. It was so noisy and colourful.
We saw children carrying their lanterns. Families came together to eat sweet rice. I asked someone why they ate this. They told me it was for good fortune and family unity.
All the lanterns I saw were red. Red in China means joy. The lanterns were made of paper but I saw some made from glass. Those were fantastic! The lanterns all had different shapes and sizes. Some looked like boxes and flower. My favourite one was the dragon lantern. It was huge and had great colours on it. I took lots of photos.
