Chinese New Year Celebration of Li

Chinese New Year Celebration of Li

This is Li. Her favourite day of the year is the Chinese New Year’s Day. The celebrations last for 15 days. In China, at midnight on New Year’s Eve, all the doors and windows of houses are opened to let the old year leave. On the last day, Chinese people have the Lantern Festival. They carry lanterns at night. Li likes watching the lion dance. Two people dance under a bright lion costume. They say this brings them good luck in the new year.

People wear bright red clothes to bring a happy new year. They take oranges and tangerines with them when they visit someone’s home. They think this is lucky, too. They give red envelopes to children and relatives with ‘lucky money’ inside.
