CHRIS MARTIN’S LIFE
1. Chris Martin was born on March 1977 in Devon in the south-west of England. His mother was a teacher and his father was an accountant. He went to University College London to take a degree in Ancient World Studies. Chris married actress Gwyneth Paltrow in 2003. They had two children, a girl and a boy.
2. When Chris was at university in the mid-90’s he met the other three members of Coldplay, Will Champon, Guy Berryman and John Buckland. They became friends immediately and then Chris and Johnny began writing songs. In 1998, they played a concert at the The City Music Festival in Manchester.
3. Their concert was a success so many record companies reached them to sign a contract. They decided to sign with a small record company to make one single, and then signed with the record company Parlophone. Coldplay released their first album, Parachutes, in 2000. It got very popular in Europe and in the USA. During the next few years, they produced two more albums and sold millions of copies. They also went on world tours and won several awards for their music.
4. Chris Martin and Coldplay are important in the world of music because their lyrics have got strong messages. They also work hard to make people understand problems in the world. Chris has travelled to Ghana and Haiti to support Oxfam’s campaign to make world trade fairer.
