Chuseok: a Korean Holiday

Chuseok is the Korean Thanksgiving day. It is one of the biggest and most important holidays in Korea. People celebrate food and harvest on Chuseok. It is important because family members come together on this day. They share food and give thanks to their ancestors.

People prepare some traditional food to celebrate that day. One of the most known food for Chuseok is Songpyeon. These are rice balls which are smaller than a baseball. They fill these rice balls with different food like sesame seeds, beans, red beans and chest nuts as well as others. It is an old tradition for the whole family to make Songpyeon together for Chuseok. They believe they will meet a good husband or wife if they make a beautiful shaped Songpyeon on Chuseok. They also make Jeon (traditional Korean pancake) for Chuseok. They make Jeon by slicing some fish, meat and vegetables and then lightly frying them in a batter of flour and eggs.
