CLIMATE CHANGE AND PEOPLE
The concept of environment includes the planet and all of its properties and resources, like people, animals, forests, water, food, etc. We now know how important it is to keep the environment clean because our knowledge of science has increased. For example, most experts are now sure that climate change is having a negative effect on the planet, and that human activity is the greatest reason of climate change.
We are also responsible for keeping the planet in a good state so that the next generation and the generations after that can live healthy lives here, and not worry about environmental problems and natural disasters like floods, earthquakes, food shortages, droughts, and other life-destroying effects of climate change.
The world will soon have a population of 8 billion. This means that there is a growing need for food, water and energy. Currently, one third (1/3) of the planet’s population cannot access clean drinking water and nutritious food. Sadly, this problem will probably increase to two thirds (2/3) by 2050, because of pollution and increasing demands on water supplies.
There are lots of problems facing the environment. Here are some suggestions about what you can do to help:
- Recycle
- Reduce your use of plastic
- Cut down on plane and car travel
- Eat less meat and dairy
The meat and dairy industries cause a lot of damage to the environment. Feeding animals, killing them, and their transportation are costly because a lot of energy and resources are required. Also, forests are cut down to create land for animals to be raised. You can help by choosing meet-free or dairy-free food options more regularly at meal times.
