Shelves: books - to - buy, historical - fiction Iqbal is a very quick read - 120 pages long. It was very interesting and heart - wrenching at the same time, It’s a story of a brave boy who was sold to a rug factory as a slave to pay off a family debt and his courageous ba ttle to free all children in slavery for a hope of a better life as free children. This is a true story as told by Fatima, who was also a child slave, and recounts his life to free them from a life of cruelty, long hours and little food. And if you already know the story of Iqbal, then you already know that the book has a bittersweet ending. But I would encourage people to read it. It is considered juvenile fiction, but anyone of any age would enjoy it.

Iqbal definitely wasn't a bad book but I can't say I enjoyed it thoroughly. I chose this book because I really liked the idea of the story; the blurb on the back was interesting. The place where I feel this book failed the most was in the c haracters. They had little to no personal characteristics and traits, and were quite expressionless. The novel definitely did have many relatable moments, like when all the children stand up for each other and shout for freedom. All in all, it is a great s tory with a lack of character. Someone that is looking for an easier read and won't notice the fine details in character would probably enjoy this book a lot more than me.
