Corals

Corals

Most people think that corals are sea plants. In fact, corals are sea animals. They live in colonies, meaning that they live together. The coral reef makes a good place to live for many other creatures like fish, crabs, octopuses, and seashells. Corals usually grow in warm tropical oceans. Sometimes in cold seas, you can see corals too. Corals need to eat small animals. Each coral animal looks like a little bag. The open part on the top is their mouth. Tentacles (little arms) around the mouth carry small animals inside. Some corals need to see the sunlight and grow in warm seawater. Diving is a popular activity in these areas because corals look so beautiful and colourful. Sea pollution is not good for corals. They need clean, clear water. Also, people hunt them and make necklaces and bracelets from red corals. The coral reefs around the world are in danger.
