Cubic Houses Of Rotterdam
The Cubic Houses are a set of innovative architectural wonders located in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. There are 38 small cubes and they are attached to each other. The architect Piet Blom constructed them in the 1970s.
Blom came up with this cube house idea when the Rotterdam town planners asked him to design a building on top of a pedestrian bridge. Blom had previously designed similar experimental housing and decided to create a forest by designing houses each symbolizing a tree.
The cubes are tilted and sit on hexagon-shaped pole structures. They have concrete floors, concrete pillars and wooden framing.
Inside the houses there are three floors. The lower floor is a triangular area used as the living room. The middle floor contains the sleeping area and a bathroom, while the top floor, also in a triangular shape, is used as either an extra bedroom or a living space.
