Customer Behaviours
Yesterday a checkout worker at a British department store refused to serve a customer who was talking on her mobile phone. “The queue was already a few metres long and she was still talking on the phone and making me and other customers wait,” the worker said. This caused people to start discussing what acceptable behaviour from customers is.
Below is a short list of the customer behaviours that are annoying to shop assistants;
1. Some customers make a scene when trying to return a product they bought earlier. Some argue with the staff, some just make a complaint to the store manager. They often save only a few dollars, but they still do it. This causes tension in the store and a long queue at the checkout point.
2. Ignoring changing room rules is another thing that annoys the staff. A man tried on twenty-three things, and just left them on the ground. All he bought was a sale t-shirt for twelve dollars.
3. A lot of the time it’s food. Customers come in eating, and then they leave the rubbish on the floor or they just give it to you. Customers who do not care about the “no food” rule can be quite annoying.
4. Some customers like to interrupt the shop assistants who are helping other customers. They ask about sizes or a different colour of the shirt they like. This is also disrespectful. It is common sense, you cannot just interrupt a conversation!
5. Headphones are also a common problem. You try to talk to customers, but you can’t when they ignore you.
