CYBER-ATTACKS

CYBER-ATTACKS

The FBI is the lead federal agency for investigating cyberattacks by criminals who are overseas enemies,
opponents
and terrorists. The threat is getting more and more serious day by day.
These criminals are becoming more dangerous
and more sophisticated.
Both private and public sector
networks including governments, municipalities, banks,
hospitals and business towers are targeted by these criminals.
They are mostly targeting trade secrets and other
sensitive corporate data,
and universities for their cuttingedge
research and development. Every year,
companies
lose billions of dollars just to repair the systems hit by such attacks.
The real question is “who is behind such attacks?”
They are mostly computer geeks,
who are looking for
bragging rights, businessmen who are trying to gain an upper hand,
and criminals who want to steal money or
information from the business market.
The inability to access the important data that are stolen by these criminals can cause
catastrophic results
in terms of the loss of sensitive and private information.
They can also harm the reputation of a trusted
company or cause financial losses.
They generally ask ransom to sell the information back.
The FBI doesn’t
support paying a ransom to these criminals.
Paying a ransom doesn’t guarantee an organization that it will get
its data back.
So what does the FBI suggest?
We need to ensure having antivirus and anti-malware solutions
at first.
We also need to configure access controls, including file, directory,
and network share permissions
appropriately.
Data back-ups need to be done regularly in order to avoid data loss.
Finally companies need
to make sure that their employees are aware of their critical role in protecting
the organization’s data. These are some of the ways to prevent yourself from a possible attack!
