Dangerous Herbivores

Dangerous Herbivores

When you think of dangerous animals you could think of lions, bears and tigers. These animals all eat meat and that is why most people are scared of them. But some herbivores are maybe even more dangerous.

Gorilla

A silverback gorilla (an adult male, and usually the leader of the gorilla group) can weigh up to 200 kilograms, sometimes even more, and has the strength of 10 adult men. They are usually peaceful vegetarians, but the adult male will attack anybody or anything if he thinks they are going to hurt his family. They can also run twice as fast as a human.

Hippopotamus

The hippopotamus is the most dangerous of all herbivores in Africa; it kills more people every year than lions, leopards and crocodiles. The male hippo can attack in the water and on the land. It looks fat but can run very fast. It has the largest and strongest jaws and longest canines of any mammal, and can bite an adult crocodile in half. Imagine, then, what it could do to you!
